Disclaimer: CC created this wonderful show 
and he gave us the happy ending all of us 
wanted... I just borrow them to have a 
little fun with Mulder, Scully and most of 
all Diana.
Author's note: I know it's a cruel thought 
to imagine that Diana is still alive when 
William is born and that she kind of 
reappears in Mulder's and Scully's lives 
but I just thought it would be fun to see 
her reaction when she meets William and 
sees that Mulder and Scully are leading a 
happy life together with their son... hope 
you'll like it;)

~William meets aunt Diana~ 

Diana Fowley couldn't trust her eyes when 
she entered Fox Mulder's office. Nothing 
had changed there, still the same little 
office full of choas and also Mulder 
looked pretty much the same since last 
time she had seen him but something was 
different - there was a baby! In the 
middle of his desk stood a baby carrier 
with a baby sittng inside waving its 
little fists at Mulder who cooed at the 
little thing. He hadn't even noticed 
somebody entering the room. He was totally 
engrossed with the baby in front of him.

"Fox," she tried to get his attention.

He looked up briefly.
"Diana, what brings you down here? I 
thought you were happy with being away 
from the X-Files?" While he had spoken he 
had instinctively pulled the baby carrier 
closer to himself.

"I just wanted..." The sight of the baby 
there distracted her that much that she 
didn't even know anymore that she wanted 
to talk to him privately, trying to get 
him interested in her again.
"Fox, what is this baby doing in your 
office?"

"I'm just watching him 'til his mother 
comes back."

Mulder knew Diana well enough to know that 
she wouldn't come to him out of the blue, 
without wanting something either 
professionally or personally. One way or 
the other Mulder wouldn't let her 
interfere in his life anymore, not now not 
ever. God knows, he had made enough 
mistakes in the past, hurting the people 
he loved.

"You and children? How come you're doing 
it?"

"I guess it's because the mother trusts me 
with the baby." 

He could easily tell her that this baby 
was his son and the mother was his long-
time partner Dana Scully but he decided to 
play with her a little. She would know the 
truth as soon as Scully came back and 
started fussing over Will after not seeing 
him for five minutes - like she always 
did.
'Who would trust Fox with a baby? He's a 
kid himself... at least sometimes.' Those 
were Diana's thoughts but what surprised 
her the most about this whole scene was 
that Mulder obviously enjoyed watching 
this baby. 'I wonder who the mother is...' 
Just as Diana thought this Scully entered 
the office stopping dead in her track when 
she saw Diana there - the hatred and anger 
obvious in her blue eyes. She took a deep 
breath before stepping further into the 
room approaching Diana.

"Agent Fowley, what do you want here?" she 
asked not even trying to be polite.
Both women knew what the other was 
thinking about them.

"I was just paying Fox a visit since I'm 
back in Washington."

Mulder enjoyed the scene - both women were 
fighting over him, if not openly it was 
hidden between the lines, though Scully 
should know she would always be the winner 
of this competition.

"Well, how nice of you," Scully's words 
were dripping with sarcasm.

"When I came here, I found him watching 
this baby for someone. We just started to 
talk when you came in, right Fox?"

Both women looked at him now, one smiling 
sweetly, the other glaring at him. He 
decided to have a little fun and let Diana 
off the hook... not only because he didn't 
want to deal with a mad Scully but also 
because he wanted to see Diana's face to 
what he would reveal to her now.

He looked at William for a moment then 
took him out of his carrier and went 
around the desk with him meanwhile 
starting to speak.
"Diana, I need to tell you some things. I 
told you that I'm watching this baby for a 
minute while his mother went to the 
restrooms and that I do it because she 
trusts me with him. Well, she should trust 
me since I'm his father." He made a short 
pause and looked at Scully who was smiling 
at him now.
"Diana, this is my son William and his 
mother and my wife-to-be," he kissed 
Scully's hair shortly but lovingly, "just 
returned. Now she can take our son while 
I'm packing my stuff and then we can go 
home together."

Diana's eyes couldn't go any wider and she 
swallowed hard several times letting his 
words sink in.'That can't possibly be 
true! ' she thought while a strange 
mixture of disappointment and anger spread 
within her.

"I wouldn't have thought to ever see you 
with a child."

"Not *a* child - *his* child." This time 
it was Scully who made fun of Diana.

"Well, actually this kid could only hope 
to not have inherited some of your 
features."

He laughed at her words making Diana 
realize that nothing she threw at him now 
could really hurt him.

"I think we did a quite good job. William 
is a good boy." Just when he had finished 
the sentence said child started squirming 
and whimpering in his father's arms.

"Not as good as you thought, huh?" Diana 
said sarcastically when seeing the baby.

"Well, just as his father he knows how to 
acknowledge that he's hungry... or that he 
doesn't like someone." Scully said with a 
sweet smile.

Since Diana still didn't make a move to 
leave the office Mulder switched to their 
usual routine as if she wouldn't be there 
anymore.

"Sweetheart, could you take Will so that I 
can get my things?"
With that he handed William to his mother 
who tried to calm him down a bit.

"I know, you're hungry sweetie but we'll 
be home soon, okay. Then you get your 
dinner." She spoke to her son with her 
usual baby voice making Mulder laugh.

"What's so funny mister?" she asked 
knowing exactly why he was laughing.

"Nothing, I just like that voice of yours 
when you speak to him."

"Oh, would like me to speak to you like 
this too?"

"No, reserve that for our son. You have 
other voices I like much more especially 
that sexy husky one you have sometimes."

"Mulder! There's a child in the room. 
Behave... at least until we're at home and 
he's in bed, okay?" she spoke with faked 
seriousness and gave him one of her smiles 
reserved only for him.

Diana, still rooted to the spot, had 
followed this whole exchange with interest 
and in the ending with disgust. The way 
they spoke to one another and the way they 
looked at each other and William showed 
her that those two were happy and so much 
in love, it made her wanting to vomit. She 
had known before that they had a strong 
bond, unusual for most partnerships but 
she had never thought they would lead the 
life they had now. And as much as it 
frustrated her - she was beaten. She would 
never have a chance with him again. The 
Fox Mulder now was someone completely 
different from the one she used to know a 
while back.

She was still deep in her thoughts when 
Mulder's voice brought her back to 
reality: "I don't know if you wanna stand 
there all night Diana but though it was so 
nice to talk to you again I'm afraid I 
have to go now. As you can see my family 
is waiting for me."

She followed his glance to the door and 
like he had said Scully was standing there 
looking at her husband-to-be with a loving 
smile while rocking their baby in her arms 
in an attempt to soothe him. Mulder 
returned Scully's smile with one of his 
own, took his coat from the rack and went 
to them. And while in the past he simply 
put his hand on her lower back to guide 
her he now snaked his whole arm around her 
waist pulling her close against him as if 
to show that she belonged only to him. 
Before Diana could say anything they were 
out the door Mulder's and Scully's 
laughter ringing in her ears...
